Learning from Twitter’s Top 75 Badass Women – @ckburgess

In February I was thrilled to learn that I had been named to Twitter’s Top 75 Badass Women.  Every Tuesday, I’m going to explore what marketing lessons can be learned from my fellow BAs and share them here.

When I was a Twitter newbie, Cheryl was one of the first people I followed.  I kept seeing her handle in conjunction with #MMchat and Marketing Monday.  When I looked at her profile, timeline, and website – two words came to mind – “Pro’s Pro”.

Cheryl is an ambassador, leader, advocate, educator and the ultimate professional – a model to all of us in marketing – a Pro’s Pro.

A true and (more rare) deserving Who’s Who of social media marketing – Cheryl’s accolades are numerous.  All you need to do is take a look at her profile.  But I believe the reason Cheryl is always on the short list of marketers who have done remarkable things with social media is that Cheryl’s very marrow is networking.  She engages with people.  Energetically.  Without hyperbole, preaching, or drawing attention to herself.

Her website, Blue Focus Marketing, is smart, elegant, targeted and intelligent. Just like Cheryl.

If you are a young marketer and want to learn how to do it right, follow Cheryl, visit her site.  If you only learn a fraction of what I’ve learned – and I’m a 25 year veteran – you will have learned a lot.

  1. Dawn this is such a nice post. Cheryl is not only whipsmart but she is one of the most sincere genuine cheerleaders out there. So many people in every industry have a hard time supporting others, especially if they could compete for work. Cheryl is truly a leader who wants us all to succeed because we all know how much poor work is done so truly there is a huge massive sea for the folks who champion clients and brands. She has been an invaluable connection.

  4. Dawn,

I’m honored and humbled by your blog and also everyone’s kind comments. What I can say is that we’re all learning from each other and growing together in our social media community. If anyone has learned anything, it is that we need each other.

    Thank You.
