Today Anheuser-Busch was trending on Twitter. When I clicked on the hash tag, I came upon this story: Anheuser-Busch to buy Goose Island for $38.8 Million.
I sent the link to Beloved Son, currently a law student in his second year, former A-B employee, and a SLU graduate with a focus on economics.
His comments: Very interesting. I was working on the distribution contracts for these guys when I was in the legal department. Anheuser-Busch has struggled in the Chicago market for many years…a nice way to work itself in there without the “Budweiser” “Bud Light” or “Michelob” names.
In a broader context, seeing this deal and the AT&T/T-Mobil transaction provides a sense of economic easing…hopefully more activity to follow!
I hope he is right.
And if you haven’t read Dethroning the King: The Hostile Takeover of Anheuser-Busch, an America Icon – you should. It’s the most engaging nonfiction I’ve read since Charlie Wilson’s War and Shakespearian in the drama of the story – fathers and sons, power and business.
